We have interviewed Joakim, the caretaker of Katedral Skolan about the water consumption.

At first, the consumption of water is the highest of the year at the end of january. But the lowest is from jully to August (holidays).

The school doesn't have special water saving measures. There is just a system in the toilets to save the water.

In Linköping, despite the cold whether, the pipes don't freeze because they are deep in the ground. The water is carried from the state to the school with a big pipe.

The school uses on average 5067 cubic meters of water per year

and one liter cost 7 centimes(of euro).

Katedral Skolan hasn' t a water rate it mustn' t go over. The

hot water doesn' t come from the school itself but from a

factory called «Teckniska Verken».

This school doesn' t give information about saving water to the

students (as here). Moreover, they don't collect the water from

the roofs and they don' t drink tap water. Finally, they

don' t often buy water bottles for the environement and they

don' t collect water from the roofs.

The school uses about 3129 cubic meters of water during the first quarter and:

3585 cubic meters during the second. The water consumption is the highest at the begining of the year because the boarding school is most crowded at that moment (then some persons leave the boarding school and the water consumption goes down).

Daily, the school takes note of the consumption of water to see if there is a leak.

The water comes from the water tower and the consumption cost about 16650 euro per year.

  • There you can see the boilers of the school.

Like for Katedral Skolan, the water from the roofs is not collected but the hot water doesn' t come from a firm.

  • The school uses about 35 cubic meters per day and it is employed for cooking, for the toilets, the showers and the heating system. You will notice that there is not a boarding school in Katedral Skolan and a boarding school has a high consumption of water: this is the case in Landerneau.

The town's water is analysed (once) at the arrival at the school, then it is filtered one more time and it is made softer (adoucie).

Like in sweden, the toilets have a system to save the water.

Here are the water pumps of the boarding school. They are used to send the water to toilets, showers, etc....

Conclusion: The two schools have almost the same consumption of water. They don't have special measures to save the water. However, the caretakers of the two schools say that the consumption and the management of water are optimum.
