The meeting of a Swedish journalist
Hej,
When we were in Sweden, we had to interview a journalist of a local newspaper, the Correspondenten. It's the Linköping's newspaper which had existed for 175 years.
Roxane : How many news items are there generally ?
Johan : There are about 2,3,4 articles about it for a day but it's generally short articles (it depends on the importance of the crime).
Damien : Are there journalists who specialize in crime news ?
Johan : Yes, there are, where I work there's one journalist who specializes in crime news.
Alexane : Do the journalists do fieldwork or do they just call the police for the investigation ?
Johan : Generally, beofre the court they just call the police and they go see it and then they can write a big article about the criminal case because after it, they know the story and the sentence is done.
But, sometimes, not very often, they can do fieldwork but if they don't do itt very often it's because they aren't many journalists in my news papers organisation. Moreover this work takes a lot of time and they don't have the time for investigation because of the other articles which take much time too.
Léa : Do journalists suffer from any pressure in sensitive investigation ?
Johan : Yes, they do. I have suffered of pressure from suspects who have called me and tried to threaten me, but it isn't really often. It is increasing in Sweden and it is a real problem.
Fanny : Are there magazines specializing in crime news ?
Johan : No, it doesn't exist.
Elise : How dothey deal with the information ? Subjectively or Objectively ?
Johan : The journalists try to be as objective as they can but it doesn't really exist because they chose the information and that is subjectively.
Roxane : Do you write the true name of the protagonists ?
Johan : Generally, they don't write them because of the guilty's family can be persecuted and moreover before the cort they're not sure he's guilty.
Damien : What kind of crime news are more common ?
Johan : The news items which are more common are theft, durgs fights matter but it doesn't take much space in the newspaper and they write it when it's interesting.
Some examples of small news items :
In the interview, Johan told us a nice anecdote, you can hear it with the video :
So we compared French and Swedish newspapers, we saw that there aren't many differentes, Johan just said he was jelous about the size oh our newspaper, is bigger than their.
