The penitentiary museum, Norköping.
On wednesday, we went to a Penitentiary Museum in Norköping. This Museum was about the evolution of prison and sanction of condamned in Sweden.
- During this visit, we saw the different things:
Firstly there was a roulette like in casino, but on this one, guilty had to “chose” a number, rotating the roulette. This number corresponded to the punishment they will have. The worst punition was on the number 0. During free time, each of us tried this and it was very funny.
Near the wheel, a fresco was painted with different sanctions of condamned people in history.
On this we could see a village and it focused on the «pyre place».
For example we could see hanged, quartered and burned alife. It was accompanied by a soundtrack representing scream of soffering condamned, it was terrible.
Then we saw a bedroom fitted like in a real prison. This room was too small and lot of people couldn't go in. We were so suprised because there was only one small bed with little tv, and a sink.
There were also some grafs on the walls, drawn by prisoners.
Then we remark the security through cameras instaled all corners in rooms.
At the end of the visit, we saw arms which were created by prisoners with material they have transform in prison or they appropriated by people who went to see them during thier permissions. We saw that they made a machine gun with prison bars or big knives with forks, and something which with they can smoke made with a coca cola cans.
During this afternoon we learnt a lot of things about prison systeme in Sweden. It was interesting, educative and very funny too ! Charlotte L'Hostis, Emeline Mazurie, Séverine Jacquet, Syntie Nkouolande.
